Professeur d’histoire de l’art et de l’architecture à l’Université d’Harvard, Alina Payne est actuellement directeur de la Villa I Tatti – The Harvard Center for Italian Renaissance Studies. Elle est l’auteur de The Architectural Treatise in the Italian Renaissance: Architectural Invention, Ornament and Literary Culture (1999) et de From Ornament to Object. Modern Architecture and the Rise of a Theory of Objects (à paraître). Elle est aussi éditrice de Known (2000) et co-éditrice de Antiquity and Its Interpreters (2000). Elle travaille actuellement à l’édition de trois volumes d’essais : Vision and Its Instruments ; Portable Archaeology and the Poetics of Influence: Croatia and the Mediterranean ; et Compact Artefacts: Triumphal Arches and the Paragone between the Arts. Elle a été récompensée en 2006 par le Prix de la recherche en sciences humaines Max Planck et Alexander von Humboldt.
